EGNOS (European Geostationary Overlay Service) is the European Space Based Augmentation System (SBAS) developed by the European Space Agency (ESA) in co-operation with the European Commission and the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (EUROCONTROL). The last has established a standardized data collection environment, the so-called EDCN (EGNOS Data Collection Network), to perform continuous EGNOS performance monitoring.
The actual achieved performance in each location is assessed (thereby using the accurately known location of the monitor station) and the performance is checked against the Required Navigation Performance (RNP) requirements (Accuracy, Availability, Integrity and Continuity of service). In addition any anomalies identified are analysed in detail to assess the cause, the probability of re-occurrence and possible mitigation techniques from the user side. The objective of this performance assessment is to support the use of EGNOS as navigation means to provide guidance up to the so-called APV-I and APV-II approach operations (APV = Precision Approach with Vertical Guidance).
PANG Group is involved in the EDCN project by the scientific supervision of the monitor stationplaced in Naples at University seats of Villa Dora D'angri. PANG station performs daily data collection using a Polarix2 dual frequency receiver and "AeroAntenna - APS1027A" L1/L2 GPS Survey Antenna. Data processing results are sent to EDCN website and available for network analysis.
